Antioxidant Effect of Dietary Zataria multiflora boiss Extract Supplementationon and Susceptibility of Chicken Meat to Lipid Oxidation during Frozen Storage
Authors
Abstract:
The antioxidant effect of dietary Zataria multiflora boiss (ZMBE) extract supplementation on the susceptibility of chicken thigh muscle to lipid oxidation during frozen storage at -20 ˚C for 6 months was examined in this experiment. Three hundred thirty six day-old chicks were allocated to 7 dietary treatments with 4 replicates (12 birds each) in a completely randomized design. The dietary treatments in this study were: T1) basal diet [control group, without Zataria multiflora boiss extract (ZMBE)], T2) and T3) [basal diet plus 0.5% and 1% of ZMBE for 42 days], T4) and T5) [basal diet plus 0.5% and 1% ZMBE in the last two weeks of rearing period] and T6) and T7) [basal diet plus 0.5% and 1% ZMBE in the last week of rearing period], respectively. The susceptibility of meat to lipid oxidation was determined by measuring the pH and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) level of thigh muscle after 2, 4 and 6 months of storage, respectively. Results clearly demonstrated a major impact on the oxidative stability of broiler meat by ZMBE treatments when compared to control group (P

Effect of natural antioxidant combinations on lipid oxidation in cooked chicken meat during refrigerated storage.
The effect of combinations of sage, oregano and honey on lipid oxidation in cooked chicken meat during refrigeration at 4°C for 96h was determined. Chicken samples (thigh and breast) were then separated into five groups: control; butylated hydroxytoluene; oregano+sage; oregano+sage+5%honey and oregano+sage+10%honey. Quantitative measurements of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, conjugate...
full textThe effect of Zataria multiflora Boiss hydroalcoholic extract and fractions in pentylenetetrazole-induced kindling in mice
OBJECTIVE At present, there are many antiepileptic drugs with a wide range of side effects on the human body. It was assumed that Zataria multiflora Boiss (Z. multiflora) with sedative, anti-spasmodic and anti-inflammatory activity may be effective in the treatment of epilepsy. The aim of the present study was to elucidate the effect of Z. multiflora hydroalcoholic extract and its fraction extr...
full textPreventive effect of methanolic extract of Zataria Multiflora Boiss on liver toxicity of paracetamol in rats
Background: The analgesic paracetamol causes a potentially fatal, centrilobular hepatic necrosis when taken in misuse and overdose. This research aimed to evaluate the protective effects of methanolic extract of Zataria Multiflora Boiss (Z. Multiflora) against hepatic damage induced by paracetamol-induced hepatotoxicity in male Wistar rats. Methods: for this purpose, paracetamol was administrat...
full textEffect of Adding Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) Extract on Quality Characteristics of Chicken Burger during Frozen Storage
Background: Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) is an aromatic herb; rich source of citric, vitamin C, and phenolic compounds used as natural antioxidant and antibacterial agents in food processing. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of lemongrass extract on the quality properties of chicken burger during frozen storage. Methods: Lemongrass extract was prepared with three levels (0.5, 1.0, a...
full textEffect of dietary ethanol extracts of mango (Mangifera indica L.) on lipid oxidation and the color of chicken meat during frozen storage.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the dietary effect of mango extracts on lipid stability and the coloring of broiler chicken breast meat during frozen storage. The treatments consisted of broiler chicken diet without antioxidants (control) and diets containing antioxidants: 200 ppm of butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), 200 ppm of mango peel extract (MPE), 400 ppm of MPE, 200 ppm of mango seed...
full textAnti herpes simplex-1 activity of a standard extract of Zataria multiflora Boiss.
In Rosmarinic Acid (RA) is a phenolic acid which has many biological activities such as antioxidant, anti inflammatory and anti viral effects. In the present study, we have studied the anti Herpes simplex type 1 (HSV-1) effect of methanolic extract of Zataria multiflora which has been standardized on the basis of RA content. Methanolic extract of Zatria multiflora was prepared by maceration met...
